The canaries’ high respiratory rate allows it to fly,
but causes it to die quickly in a poisoned coal mine.

Biography:
Canary Sounds is a Vancouver-based indie rock project founded by Edmonton Alberta-born singer-song writer James Patrick Mackay. Partly inspired by Mackay’s struggles with depression and anxiety, Canary Sounds explores the “tortured artist” as emblematic of greater societal dysfunction.
Inspired by artists including: The Smashing Pumpkins, David Bowie, Marilyn Manson, The Pixies and Pink Flyod; Canary Sounds predominately evokes a mix of 90s-style grunge and 60s and 70s psychedelic rock; occasionally also exploring a stripped down acoustic singer-songwriter vibe.
Canary Sounds released their first EP Ashes to Ashes, on July 17 2018 and is currently hard at work on a new full length album. Although in its early stages, Canary Sounds hopes to entertain, provoke and challenge its listeners.
